Caraway seed is the dried fruit of Carum carvi, an herb in the parsley family. It is light to dark brown in color, and has a sweetish, sharp taste reminiscent to aniseed. The seeds usually found in rye bread are caraway seeds. They are also used to flavor cakes, biscuits, cheese, cookies, applesauce and a large variety of vegetable dishes.
