Description
Nutmeg is the single brown glossy seed found in a fruit that resembles an apricot. The nutmeg tree, Myristica Fragrans, also produces mace, which is the netlike membrane that enwraps the nutmeg seed. After the drying process is complete, nutmeg can be ground to a light brown fine powder. An exotic spice with a sweet, warm and highly spicy flavor, it is used to flavor frankfurters, sausages, various other meat products, soups, sauces and preserves. Nutmeg is also a popular baking spice for cakes and custards, as well as sweet puddings.
